When Simple Plan are in Montreal the whole city senses a disturbance in the force. Montreal’s heart-throb band stopped by the Bell Centre during their “Taking One For The Team Tour”. It was a very eventful day for them with their families and friends, media, and fans all waiting to get their moment with them. Even if the interview was pushed back a few hours the friendly staff at the Bell Centre took great care of me. I was able to attend the soundcheck and see the excited faces of the fans enjoying the music and waiting impatiently for their meet and greet. Simple Plan is the band that started it all for me. My love affair with music, lyrics, and they are the reason why I am doing what I am today. Starting my interview and show review career with Simple Plan is both an honor and privilege for me. Since it was a busy day for Simple Plan, drummer Chuck Comeau stepped in for the band interview.

How do you manage your shows in Montreal compared to everywhere else?
For sure it’s different in Montreal. There is so much more people and our friends and family are here. It’s very special being home. There’s a bit more nervousness and stress before the show. At the same time it’s even more exciting. We want everyone to enjoy it and people to be proud of the band since we’re from here. We put ourselves a bit more pressure than usual but at the same time there’s a bigger rush than anything else. It’s more trouble but more fun. There’s nothing better than playing at the Bell Centre in Montreal. My best show memories are here.

Is there anything new happening for the Simple Plan Foundation?

We are working on it. We are planning a big event for 2017. We raised almost 2million dollars for different organizations since we started. It’s going well. We are continuing what we are doing on all our tours, 1$ from each ticket goes towards the foundation so even if we don’t have an event going on our tours are still creating revenue for the foundation. Our only goal is to help people and create something, a heritage, for the people of Montreal.

Which song have you written that means the most to you?
There’s been many special songs that made a big difference in our career like “Perfect”. That was one of our most honest and real that we’ve written. It was something that came from the heart. The fact that it reached so many people, even today, every time we play it there’s an exceptional reaction. Just to see that is incredible. There’s also “This Song Saved My Life” that people find themselves in it. I would say it’s those emotional songs that get a reaction from people that means a lot to them. The words and the music affects them deeply and makes them feel good. For me for that reason they are my favorite songs.

How has your song writing process changed over the years?
It hasn’t changed very much. Usually Pierre and I get together for the first idea of the song for lyrics, melody, guitar riffs and we work it together and when it’s pretty much ready we take it to the others. We jam and everyone puts in their idea and it creates a Simple Plan song when all 5 are involved.

What is your most memorable tour moment?
Our first show here in 2005. It was very special, all our families were here, we were completely sold out. It was hallucinating. Growing up and seeing shows here and now to be part of the history and playing here was cool.
