Best albums of 2017

Here at Montreal Rocks, I think it’s safe to say we struggled to choose our favourite albums of 2017. There has been an abundance of amazing music this year, from all genres. From the forward-thinking pop music of Lorde and Sampha to the rise of extreme bands such as Code Orange and All Pigs Must Die. Then we had superb records from The National, The War On Drugs and Gorillaz, and Beck was back at his quirky best.

We asked some of our writers and photographers to give us a run-down of their albums of 2017 and you can see what they thought below. It’s a varied list and that’s what’s so great about music. We look forward to another 365 days of amazing music and live shows in 2018.

Happy Holidays from all of us here at Montreal Rocks.

Randal Wark – Writer

“Streaming has changed the way I listen to music. Because we now have access to almost every album every released, we have created the anxiety of choice. Looking at my top ten list, I can instantly notice that these are the albums I have decided to download to my device. The common thread is that I’ve seen almost every one of these bands live. Attending concerts creates a bond with the artist, forged out of the auditory and visual experience combined. Listening to these brings back memories of the live performances.”
