Tom Petty dead at 66

Tom Petty has passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed.

Petty was rushed to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital on Sunday night after being found unconscious at his home in Malibu. According to reports, Petty was “not breathing and in full cardiac arrest”. The musician was put on life support but it has since been reported that “after Petty got to the hospital he had no brain activity and a decision was made to pull life support”.

Petty rose to fame in the 1970s with his band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The singer had several hits, including American Girl, Free Fallin’, Breakdown, Listen To Her Heart and more. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Petty recently wrapped up a North American tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Heartbreakers.
